Eligibility
To qualify for the Start-up Visa Program, you must:
- Have a qualifying business:
- Each applicant must hold at least 10% of the voting rights in the business.
- Together with the designated organization, they must hold more than 50% of the voting rights.
- Obtain a letter of support from a designated organization:
- This includes venture capital funds, angel investor groups, or business incubators approved by the Canadian government.
- Meet language requirements:
- Achieve a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 in English or French in speaking, reading, listening, and writing.
- Have sufficient settlement funds:
- Demonstrate that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependents after you arrive in Canada.
Process and Documentation
To obtain a Canada Start-Up Business Class visa, you must complete the following steps:
- Pitch your business idea: Present your business concept to a designated organization and secure their support.
- Obtain a letter of support: If the organization decides to support your business, they will provide you with a letter of support.
- Apply for permanent residence: Submit your application online through the Permanent Residence (PR) Portal, categorized under the Start-Up Business Class.
- Optional work permit: While your permanent residence application is being processed, you may apply for an optional open work permit valid for up to 3 years, allowing you to work in Canada and develop your business.
- Medical and security checks: Undergo medical examinations and provide police certificates to ensure you meet health and security requirements.
Expenses
- Permanent residence application fee: CAD $2,140 (including the processing fee and right of permanent residence fee).
- Work permit fee: CAD $155.
- Settlement funds: The amount required depends on the size of your family. For example, a single applicant needs approximately CAD $29,380.
